Name, tone & welcome message
Configure how your bot introduces itself and sets the tone for every conversation.
Bot name
The bot name appears in the chat widget header and in the bot's message bubbles. Visitors see it on every interaction.
Go to Settings → General in the admin panel.
Open Bot settings in adminGeneral settings showing name, tone, and welcome message fields.
Type the name you want visitors to see. This is typically your product name ("Acme Support"), your company name ("Widget Co Help"), or a persona name ("Aria").
Conversation tone
The tone setting influences the style of every response the bot generates. Three options:
| Tone | Style | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Friendly | Warm, conversational, uses contractions | Consumer brands, lifestyle, e-commerce |
| Professional | Formal, complete sentences, minimal contractions | B2B, finance, legal, healthcare |
| Concise | Short, direct, minimal prose | Technical support, developer tools, high-volume support |
In General settings, select a tone from the dropdown. The preview below the dropdown shows sample responses in each tone.
Welcome message
The welcome message is the first thing visitors see when they open the chat widget. It appears before any conversation begins.
In the Welcome message field, enter a brief greeting. One or two sentences is ideal.
Good examples:
- "Hi! I'm Aria, Acme's AI assistant. Ask me anything about our products, orders, or policies."
- "Welcome! I can help with product questions, shipping info, and returns. What do you need?"
Bad examples:
- "Welcome to our chatbot. This chatbot is powered by artificial intelligence and can help you with a variety of questions about our company, products, and services. Please ask your question below and our AI will do its best to help you."
Click Save changes. The welcome message takes effect immediately for new conversations.
Tips
Test with your target audience in mind. What sounds professional to you may sound cold to your customers, or vice versa. Show the preview to a colleague who represents your typical visitor.
Align with your brand voice. If your marketing copy is warm and emoji-friendly, a stiff professional tone will feel jarring. If you serve enterprise clients, a casual tone may undermine trust.
Don't promise what the bot can't deliver. If the bot can't process refunds, don't write "I can help with refunds." Broken promises create negative impressions.
