Bot name

The bot name appears in the chat widget header and in the bot's message bubbles. Visitors see it on every interaction.

1
Open Bot settings

Go to Settings → General in the admin panel.

2
Enter a display name

Type the name you want visitors to see. This is typically your product name ("Acme Support"), your company name ("Widget Co Help"), or a persona name ("Aria").

Use a name, not 'Bot'
A named assistant feels more trustworthy and on-brand than "Chatbot" or "Assistant". If in doubt, use your company name.

Conversation tone

The tone setting influences the style of every response the bot generates. Three options:

ToneStyleBest for
FriendlyWarm, conversational, uses contractionsConsumer brands, lifestyle, e-commerce
ProfessionalFormal, complete sentences, minimal contractionsB2B, finance, legal, healthcare
ConciseShort, direct, minimal proseTechnical support, developer tools, high-volume support
1
Select a tone

In General settings, select a tone from the dropdown. The preview below the dropdown shows sample responses in each tone.

Welcome message

The welcome message is the first thing visitors see when they open the chat widget. It appears before any conversation begins.

1
Write a welcome message

In the Welcome message field, enter a brief greeting. One or two sentences is ideal.

Good examples:

  • "Hi! I'm Aria, Acme's AI assistant. Ask me anything about our products, orders, or policies."
  • "Welcome! I can help with product questions, shipping info, and returns. What do you need?"

Bad examples:

  • "Welcome to our chatbot. This chatbot is powered by artificial intelligence and can help you with a variety of questions about our company, products, and services. Please ask your question below and our AI will do its best to help you."
One sentence, one value
Tell the visitor one thing: what the bot can help with. Everything else is noise.
2
Click Save

Click Save changes. The welcome message takes effect immediately for new conversations.

Tips

Test with your target audience in mind. What sounds professional to you may sound cold to your customers, or vice versa. Show the preview to a colleague who represents your typical visitor.

Align with your brand voice. If your marketing copy is warm and emoji-friendly, a stiff professional tone will feel jarring. If you serve enterprise clients, a casual tone may undermine trust.

Don't promise what the bot can't deliver. If the bot can't process refunds, don't write "I can help with refunds." Broken promises create negative impressions.
